Thanos Rising #2

04 Geek on ComicsLast month we took a look at Thanos Rising #1 and gave it all five alien heads, suggesting you drop Marvel’s Age of Ultron storyline and pick this one up. At last, we have been given the origin story of arguably the most murderous villain in the Marvel universe. Issue number two takes place a few years after the first issue and drives us further into the madness going on inside the head of a young Thanos. SPOILERS BEYOND THIS POINT! Continue reading

The homicidal artificial intelligence known as Ultron has taken over the world and only a handful of Earth’s heroes remain to fight him off. Problem is, Ultron is so damn smart that he has thwarted every attempt and isn’t even in the same time as the attack. In the previous issue, a small band of the heroes decided to take the fight to Ultron in the future. Wolverine is convinced this is a completely stupid idea and chooses to go a different route… an unspeakable route. What twist will the story take this week? SPOILERS BEYOND THIS POINT! What’s it like to be the son of a homicidal super intelligent entity currently plotting the genocide of all humanity? I’ll have to ask my son when he’s old enough to understand what the word genocide means. Until then, we’ll just have to refer to the story of Victor Mancha in Ultron #1 (part of Marvel’s Age of Ultron story arch), written by Kathryn Immonen and illustrated by Amilcar Pinna. Overall, we have not been very happy with the Age of Ultron titles. So what did we think of this one? SPOILERS BEYOND THIS POINT!!! Continue reading

Leading up to Marvel’s Infinity story arch this summer is a prelude storyline, Thanos Rising. With Age of Ultron still raging on and our budget to purchase comics for review being restricted, we were hesitant to pick up what promises to be another massive story with several tie-ins. But, we figured what the heck and picked up the card stock variant edition. After reading it today, we thought we’d bring you a late review. Continue reading

In the wee hours of the morning, we posted our top three picks for who we would like to see Deadpool face in the new movie (currently waiting for a greenlight from Fox). Admittedly, three characters is not a lot. However, we have been thinking long and hard about this post. In this segment (to become regular) we offer you a movie we want to see made. Now, we remember when Wizard magazine used to run who they would like to see cast in roles for certain movies, but we are taking it a step farther. Geeking Cool is bringing you cast, director, and a brief synopsis. And we are kicking things off with a character we intentionally left off of our Deadpool rival list: CABLE. Continue reading

Given the poor manner in which Fox handled Deadpool in the Wolverine movie (not to mention Gambit), I was glad to hear about Ryan Reynolds (perfect for the role by the way) talking about an R-rated spin-off. Then the script was leaked and I refused to read it or anything about it. Let’s face it, they have probably changed it since it’s leak a couple years ago. Everything could be different, including the villain. Therefore, we have compiled a list of baddies that we would love to see “the Merc with a Mouth” go up against. Continue reading

4/3/13 Comics Review

Let me start by stating that in Hagerstown, MD (home of Geeking Cool) there is one comic shop, Atomic Comics. The shop is hardly ever open and so I have never been there… until today. Rather than drive 30 miles to the city of Frederick, I gave the shop a call. When I got through I was informed that the shop was without electricity. However, if I came to the door, I could pick up Age of Ultron #4 and Detective Comics #19. Cool, right? We thought so… until I got home and saw the front of AU#4 had a tear in it that went through several pages. Also, the store indeed had no electricity despite the rest of the stores on the street having power. Bottom line, Atomic Comics is a shoddy store front run by a guy that may be better off working for a comic shop that owning one. Go somewhere else. We will be making weekly 60 mile round trips for our books from now on. That said, here is our review of AU #4 and Detective Comics #19. SPOILERS BEYOND THIS POINT. Continue reading
