Norman Reedus as Daryle Dixon

If you have not been watching AMC’s The Walking Dead, you have been doing yourself a great disservice. Forget the zombies and the gore and the struggling to survive. This is a show about people and how they interact with each other. Never has this been more evident than in last night’s episode, aptly titled “This Sorrowful Life”. For those of you that have not watched the latest episode of TV’s #1 show, I will try not to give too much away.

The episode’s main focus is on Merle Dixon, a complete badass who sawed off his own hand to escape a horde of walking dead only to replace said hand with a deadly prosthetic. He’s been around since the first season and quickly became one of the show’s off-putting characters. Often, we don’t know whether to love him or hate him. Yet, we accept him for the soulless redneck that he is.

Why? Because of his brother, Daryle Dixon. Daryle was the voice of reason that Merle was born without and the driving force behind much of what he did. So, when Merle decides he’s going to take a certain matter involving a town of rival survivors into his own… errr… hand, Daryle heads out after his well-meaning (but thinking impaired) sibling.

That is far as I will go with the plot. However, I will say that the ending is nothing short of gut-wrenching. This episode gets a thumbs up from us and is Geeking Cool. If you haven’t watched it yet, do so. And if you’ve yet to watch the show at all, fear not… AMC is running a week long marathon starting from season 1, episode 1 that will lead right into the season 3 finale. It starts tonight at 8:00 EST.
